Arthur J. (Art) Nicholas, age 101 of Englewood, Florida, passed away on May 2nd, 2024. He is survived by his wife Hazel; brother William; two children: Teri Nicholas (Larry LeMaire), Jeffrey (Julie) Nicholas, son-in-law Dallis Lindley, ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Born in Lansing, Michigan in 1923, Art was preceded in death by his parents John and Jocelyn (Krantz) Nicholas, two brothers, a daughter, a son, and two grandchildren.
After graduation from Lansing Central High School in 1941 Art served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1946. He was an original member of the U.S. Navy Frogmen and the Scouts and Raiders Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) which was the forerunner of today's U.S. Navy SEALs.
He was a decorated WWII Navy veteran, recipient of the Purple Heart, and awarded the French Legion of Honor Medal by the Republic of France. A lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion, AHEPA, Elks Club, and National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum. In 2023 Art became an honorary graduate of US Navy SEAL Class 355.
He was a founding member and first Warden of St David's Episcopal Church in Lansing, Michigan, and recipient of the Bishop's Cross from the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan.
In 1977 Art established Corrugated Paper Products in Mishawaka, Indiana, which became the largest independent corrugated box manufacturer in Southern Michigan and Northern Indiana.

Cremation will take place followed by interment at a later date at Deepdale Memorial Park Cemetery and St. David's Episcopal Church, both in Lansing, Michigan.
