Darlene A. Cain, 88 years old, passed away on March 24, 2026, in Edwardsburg, MI.
Darlene was born on July 7, 1937, in South Bend, IN to Chester and Helen (Grzeszczyk) Deranek. She was a devoted wife for 37 years to Harvey Dean Cain before his passing on January 6, 2006. Darlene was preceded in death by her brothers, Leonard Deranek and Casimer Deranek, her sister Virginia Wesolowski, and her grandson, Todd Buysse.
Left to cherish her memory are her step children, Brenda (Rick) Cline, Candi Cain, Dee Heiser, and Denny (Gloria) Cain; nephews Tim (Sara) Deranek, John Wesolowski (Dale Barnette), Bob (Bonnie) Wesolowski, Mark Wesolowski and nieces Michelle (Delbert) Wilson, Jackie (Bob) Kapiszka and Ann (Jerry) Blanchard; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Darlene was a graduate of St. Adalbert’s Parish School and Washington High School. She worked at Bendix Corporation/Bosch for 42 years, retiring in 2001. She loved and supported her church, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Edwardsburg, Michigan and served as a Eucharist minister for years. She was also part of the Red Hat Club.
Darlene was a devoted and proud fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for over 50 years, never missing a game. Whether sitting in the stadium, watching from home, or cheering from afar, she wore her Irish colors with pride and enthusiasm making game days a special tradition. She also had a love for travel, especially her many trips to Hawaii. She delighted in bringing back treasures and gifts for her family, always thinking of others and sharing her experiences in thoughtful and many times hilarious ways. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, making others laugh, and the joy she found in both life’s big moments and its simple pleasures. Her love for her family was constant and unwavering. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Darlene’s Family will receive visitors at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 US-12 East, Edwardsburg, MI on Saturday, March 28th from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning promptly at 11:00 AM. Please join us for a brunch at the church from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM to share stories and enjoy a meal in Darlene's honor.
Burial will immediately follow the service at St. Joseph Roman CatholicCemetery, South Bend, IN.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
