David Charles Sears

October 30, 1961 — December 17, 2020

David Charles Sears, 59, passed away at his home on December 17, 2020. He was born on October 30, 1961 on The Hopi Indian reservation in Northeast Arizona to the late Charles and Lena Sears.
David is survived by his brother, Jonathan Cordero; sisters, Wydennsa Holmes, Jolene Cordero, and Heather Lee Phillips.
David graduated from High School in Dayton, OH in 1979. He then joined the Air Force where he became a Security Police Combat Training School instructor and served in Beirut in the early 1980. While in the Air Force, David earned many honors and awards.
David also earned the Eagle Scout Badge, was an accomplished draftsman, made turquoise and silver jewelry, and was a certified CDL driver.
David spent his career in the music industry working with dozens of top-tier Rock and Roll bands and toured with national shows and plays throughout the 1980’s and 90’s.
He passed through South Bend in 2002 and fell in love. He decided it was time to leave the hard life of the road and made a permanent home in northern Indiana. David was renowned for having great skills for mixing audio, so it was natural that Dave went to work for the Morris Civic Auditorium, where he worked until his passing. He worked his way into becoming Chief Sound Engineer. He loved his job and his co-workers.
David also enjoyed being a Union Business Agent for local 187, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees.
David loved spending time with his faithful companion, Titan. Titan is a 10 year old Jack Russell mix who adored his father and loved bacon just as much. Together they would often eat breakfast at the South Bend Café or be seen walking around town. They would pray at the St. Joseph riverbank near Twin Branch, a short walk from their home. Titan now lives with the family that boarded him whenever work took David out of town.
David lived to help others, usually putting himself last. All of his texts and e-mails would usually include a creative array of emoji’s on the sign off.
He was most proud of his Hopi Indian heritage and stayed in contact with his Hopi family.
David was laid to rest on the Hopi Moenkopi Indian Reservation in AZ on December 24, 2020.
A brief Memorial Service will take place Saturday, January 23, 2021, at noon at the Morris Civic. Must enter through stage door on back side of building.
