David Allen Johnson passed away from an unexpected illness on May 1, 2024, just 4 days before his 66th birthday, surrounded by those that love him.
David was born in South Bend, Indiana to the late Harold and Marjorie (Black) Johnson, and into a family that would eventually have nine members. Those left to remember David are sisters, Barbara (Jr.) Price, Karen Rippe, Roberta (Joel) Hale; and brother Joseph Johnson. Having so many siblings, David had several nieces and nephews who he cherished and treated as his own. Also left to remember David are his son, Jason; and many friends. David also left behind his three babies, Peanut, Luna and Bear.
David was preceded in death by two more siblings, Linda and Terry Johnson.
In his early years, David enjoyed learning law and reading the Bible, which he proudly read beginning to end twice. He even became an ordained Minister marrying his younger sister, Barb and her husband Jr. He had a strong work ethic and was a true believer of Christ. He would go toe-to-toe with anyone that he could debate with, especially about the Bible. He had a strong passion for the things he believed in.
David was a Jack of all trades. He took over his father’s business with that actual name. David liked working on old cars, remodeling houses and working at the Funeral Home, where he became family. He would do anything for anyone, all you had to do was ask and he would be there.
In death, David was able to give the gift of life to others. He was honored with a Donor’s Honor Walk at the hospital where everyone who loved him followed him to the operating room. He would have been so proud knowing he helped save a life.
David will be missed by so many.
Donations can be made to the McGann Hay Funeral Home or to his sister, Barbara Price to help with funeral expenses.
Visitation for David will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024 at the McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd., South Bend, from 12-2 p.m. with a Funeral Service beginning at 2 p.m. David will be buried next to his mother at Crumstown Cemetery following the service.
