It is with joy and cherished memories that we celebrate the life of David Brian Riggs, affectionately known as "Hawkeye," who passed away on June 20, 2025. Born on September 7, 1955, in South Bend, Indiana, Dave graced this world with his kind spirit and outgoing personality that brought immeasurable happiness to all those fortunate enough to know him.
Dave was a man who found his greatest joy in the company of his family and friends. He loved spending time with his wife, Kathy(Carlile) Riggs, and their children: Megan (Riggs) Orr (Ken Orr) and Adam Riggs(Jennifer Riggs). The real sparkle in his eye came from his beloved grandchildren: Mackenzie, Jackson, Penelope, and Amelia, with whom he created countless memories at the cottage, at Notre Dame football tailgates, and his many visits to Florida. His tales, often filled with laughter and animated gestures, became legendary within the family and among friends, as they gathered to hear about his adventures and antics.
Dave had a proud and enjoyable career at Adams Remco, where he excelled in numerous roles. A graduate of Ball State University, Hawkeye's college years were highlighted by his leadership as President of the Delta Chi fraternity, and the lifelong friendships he established. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, running, biking, fishing, coaching and attending sporting events for his kids and grandkids.
Dave’s character was defined by kindness, a gift for storytelling, and an ever-present smile. His warmth drew people together, whether it was at the lake or in hearty banter at tailgates. Even after retirement, he continued to spread joy by serving at St. Hedwig in South Bend, further showcasing his devotion to community and service.
Dave is also survived by his adoring family: sisters, Kathy Clark, Rita Eichstedt, and Jan Seese (Jim); and his brother, Daniel Riggs (Trudy); and many nieces and nephews. Each of them holds precious memories of the vibrant man he was, a loving brother & uncle who filled their lives with joy.
While we remember Dave, we also honor the love and influence of those who preceded him—his cherished parents, Roland A. Riggs and Bernadine A. Riggs—whose legacy of love and support shaped the wonderful man he became.
As we reflect on the vibrant life of Dave Riggs, let us carry forward his spirit of generosity, his love for family, and his passion for life. May the stories he shared live on in our hearts, reminding us all to embrace the joy and connections that make life truly beautiful.
