Dolly Baker

Dolly Louise Baker, 77, passed away peacefully at her home on July 19, 2026.

She was born on May 30, 1949, in South Bend, Indiana, to Barbara and Bruce Baker. Dolly grew up in the River Park neighborhood, attended Nuner Elementary School, and Mishawaka High School.

Dolly married Harry Hall, and together they had three children: Tina Louise Hall, who preceded her in death; April (Ron) Shaw; and Jason (Lori) Hall.

She is survived by her loving children, April and Jason; her sisters, Geneva (Dave) Humberger and Barbara (Rennis) Kuta; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, who adored their Grandma; and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her beloved sister, Donna Malone.

Throughout her life, Dolly worked hard in a variety of occupations. She managed an ice cream shop and also worked in sewing factories, convenience stores, plastics manufacturing, retail, laundromats, fast food, and numerous manufacturing positions. No matter where she worked, she was known for her strong work ethic. 

Dolly found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved dancing to oldies music, going to watch local bands, baking homemade bread, sewing, making jewelry, playing computer games, visiting casinos, traveling to Florida, camping, relaxing on the bluff in St. Joseph, dining at local restaurants, and, most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Those who knew Dolly will remember her as a strong-willed, outspoken woman who never hesitated to say what was on her mind. She had a remarkable ability to strike up a conversation with anyone she met and truly never knew a stranger. Her bold personality, infectious spirit, and unforgettable presence left a lasting impression everywhere she went.

She was known for the little things that made her uniquely Dolly. She rarely went anywhere without her signature red sunglasses—and she would proudly wear them even indoors when there wasn’t a bit of sunshine. If you knew Dolly, you also knew her favorite request: “I need a Dr Pepper with extra ice.” She never passed up a good chicken leg, one of her all-time favorite foods, and at every family gathering it was almost guaranteed she’d ask for a “to-go” plate before the meal was over. Those simple traditions became part of who she was and will forever bring smiles to the faces of those who knew and loved her.

Dolly’s family will forever cherish the memories, laughter, and love she shared throughout her life. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring Dolly’s life, sharing memories, and celebrating the joy she brought to so many. Details regarding the date, time, and location will be announced here as they become available.
