Douglas Alan Hamilton

February 10, 1952 — November 28, 2023

South Bend

Douglas A. Hamilton, 71, passed away peacefully November 28, 2023, at Memorial Hospital under the care of Heart to Heart Hospice.

Born February 10, 1952 in South Bend, he was the son of the late Clifford and Betty (Krusinski) Hamilton.  A lifetime resident of South Bend, he lived on the southside and was able to fulfill a lifetime dream of building a log cabin with his late wife in 1997.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Julie (Robert) Billingham of Evergreen, CO; his sister, Karla Sue (Dean) Barnum of Mishawaka, IN; and nieces, Nicole (Jonathan) Redeker and Danielle (Dan) Barnum Hodges.

Douglas graduated from Jackson High School in 1970. On December 18, 1971, Douglas married the love of his life, Celianne Kohen. She preceded him in death in 1999.  7 years after they were married, they welcomed their only daughter, Julie Anne.  Douglas and his family enjoyed traveling all over the U.S.; Hawaii, the Caribbean Islands, California, Colorado, and Montana.

An avid outdoorsman, his greatest joy was fly fishing in Montana, especially the Yellowstone and Madison Rivers. Many of our family's favorite memories were made out West when we traveled to Bozeman, MT and Yellowstone National Park.

For over 30 years, Douglas worked in our family HVAC business as a mechanical contractor.  The company was founded by his grandfather, Marion Hamilton, then operated by his father, Clifford Hamilton as Clifford Hamilton and Son, Inc. until the 1990’s, when the company was reorganized and he renamed it Apex Mechanical, Inc.  He served as President and CEO until 2001.

He will be dearly missed by his family, who will hold a private service for him in the spring.
