Eleanor Gail Knight of Granger, IN, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on December 31, 2023. She was born on June 21, 1949 in Detroit, MI, to the late Theodore and Eleanor Gail (Lavy) Starosciak.
Ellie, as her friends and family called her, was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She had the most generous and loving heart. She touched many lives with her presence, unforgettable laugh, and smile.
Ellie was married to the love of her life, Larry, for 51 years. The pair was blessed with five children: first born, Dawn-Marie (Doug) Gray; followed by two sets of twins: Richard Knight and Chris (Gina) Knight; Steven Knight and Angela (Carl) Buergler. In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her grandchildren Katelyn, Kara, Leah, Alyssa, Jacob, Kinley and Brett; brothers, Tom, Ted, and Jude; sister, Rose; sister-in-law, Janet; and many nieces and nephews.
Ellie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bernie; and sisters Bernadette, Margaret and Mary.
Growing up in Detroit, Ellie attended Catholic School and worked at the church helping the priests and nuns. This faith continued throughout her life as she volunteered with the Church and would often take communion to the home-bound.
Her greatest passion in life was the nurturing of her five children. Ellie lived her life with a selfless love, always taking care of everyone else. She had a magnetic personality that you were instantly drawn to. She would often be found volunteering at her children’s schools, cheering from the stands, or offering words of comfort and support. Ellie was an excellent cook and would spend many hours in the kitchen making delicious meals and treats for family and friends. Her grandchildren adored her and looked forward to helping her make her famous “pudding in a cloud” in the kitchen. They will always remember her singing and humming around the house and the famous coloring wall on their numerous visits to see Grammy and Papa.
There is an irreplaceable void in the world without Ellie. She both loved, and was loved deeply, and her kind and generous spirit will be missed by many.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place in the spring.
