Harley Delos Reeder, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at the age of 97.
Harley was born on August 17, 1928, to Alvin and Tressie Reeder. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Max Reeder.
A proud graduate of South Bend Central High School’s Class of 1946, Harley went on to dedicate 21 years of service to the South Bend Fire Department before retiring in 1973. After his career in the fire service, he continued working at C.E. Lee and later at O’Brien’s Paints.
The heart of Harley’s life was his deep love and devotion to his family. He and his beloved wife, Beverly, shared a beautiful life together and celebrated 79 years of marriage. Their enduring partnership was a testament to love, commitment, and family.
He found great joy in his favorite pastimes, especially those shared with his wife, Beverly. Some of their happiest moments were spent together at their cottage on Gravel Lake, bike riding, or enjoying a spirited game of ping pong at the Battell Center. He was always in his element when surrounded by his loved ones. He had a deep appreciation for a good meal and the even better conversation that came with it.
Harley was a man of many words known for his resilient spirit. He carried a sense of optimism that never wavered, meeting life’s challenges with a smile and a kind heart. He had a natural ability to brighten any room, leaving a lasting impression of warmth and positivity on all who knew him.
Harley’s legacy lives on through his loving wife, Beverly; his children, Linda (Jim) Grzesik, Sheila (Steve) Poyser, Rick (Gena) Reeder, and Rock (Vicki) Reeder; as well as nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy.
In accordance with Harley’s wishes, no public services will be held. His family will gather privately to honor and celebrate his life.
