Harold Byron Weiland

November 8, 1940 — October 9, 2024

New Carlisle

Harold Byron Weiland passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, surrounded by his wife and granddaughter, Taylor. He was 83 years old.
Harold was born on November 8, 1940, to the late Fred and Mary (Burrow) Weiland in Hammond, Indiana. His Family moved to New Carlisle, Indiana when he was 10 where he attended school and Graduated from New Carlisle High School.

Harold joined the reserves at 16 while he was in Highschool and used his Army benefits to become a pilot and owned his own plane. He furthered his education by attending DeVry Tech and went on to work in Chicago for Channel 9, WCIU and WTTW.
Harold and his family moved back to LaPorte, IN in 1976, where he took up Truck Driving.

Harold “The Judge” spent the last 48 years of his life as an Owner Operator, hauling beef to New York and then hauling oversized loads visiting most of these United States. He ended his career in driving as a Flag Car Escort Service driver for oversized loads where he enjoyed the “daylight only” driving hours and not having to climb and strap down the loads.
Harold also went on to learn how to weld and opened the Weiland Welding Shop, where family and friends gathered to work on trucks and tell trucking stories.
Harold loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed watching sports, especially his favorite, Notre Dame football!

Most of his family and friends will remember joining HB to enjoy a clam digger or share a cold beer. It was never too early for happy hour!

Harold is survived by his wife, Myrna (Miller); son, Craig (Alisa) Weiland; daughter-in-law, Karen Weiland; grandchildren, Taylor, Cheyanne and Austin Weiland; and twin brother, Gerald (Debbie) Weiland.

Harold was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Weiland.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to Hamilton Grove, 31869 Chicago Trail, New Carlisle, IN 46552, where Harold received the best care during his last days.

A Memorial Service will be planned for a later date.
