Jane Gerarada Mann, maiden name Looby, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, culinary master, and benevolent caring soul who served God, passed away peacefully with family by her side on May 9th, 2025, in South Bend, Indiana, at the age of 61. Born on July 30th, 1963, in Evergreen Park, Illinois, Jane leaves behind a legacy that is filled with rich memories, selfless generosity, and an outstanding, long-lasting impact on all who have been as so blessed to be in her presence.
She was a steadfast, strong-willed woman and fellow head chef at several centers for Opus Dei, whom she amassed a profound career with via Windmoor study center, a student residence, for over two decades. She irrefutably loved to cook the upmost exquisite cuisine - not just for those at Windmoor, but for all her family and friends alike. Undoubtedly, when it came time for the kitchen, she went above and beyond in her work, was an undisputed champion of gourmet and culinary arts, and forever is by heart. Jane has left a legacy of pure commitment and help for others in her career and the memory of all she accomplished in regard to her craftsmanship and talent will forever be cherished and missed by many a soul.
As well as in her work, Jane also was skilled in many hobbies, pastimes, and general life. She loved to garden, paint, and decorate with incredible decorum. She liked movies, television, music, art, and so forth. She was very organized and cleanly which boosted not only her, but everyone’s sense of morale around. She was very quick-witted and knowledgeable, with great sense of urgency and level-headedness. She served in the United States Army, made many friends throughout, and was a true patriot for her country. Always, Jane was very interesting, likable, charismatic, powerful, and intelligent.
By many people alike, Jane has established fond memories and everlasting connections which has inspired and influenced countless acquaintances, friends, and not to mention family. Through this, her honor and dignity is permanently secured as one of the most remarkable, valuable, strong, friendly, generous, kind, adoring, and humorous person to all peoples in her life. Alas, Jane is recalled by a great quantity of spirits as a true friend, sister, aunt, mother, and above all, someone you could truly lean on in time of need. Her respect openly transcends exceptionally through all walks of life.
Jane is preceded in death by her beloved sister, Loretta Looby, darling brother, David Looby Jr. , late brother Emmet Looby, dearest mother, Loretto Looby, and cherished father, David J. Looby Sr. . Living siblings include dear brothers Greg Looby, Matthew Looby, and adoring sisters Mary Curtin, and Phylis Schmidt. Every member of her immediate family tenderly can reminisce on a powerful upbringing in a beautifully diverse and sizeable household deep-rooted in the historical culture of Chicago. She leaves behind two loving sons, Matthew and Joseph Mann, whom she proudly raised, and will be missed beyond words can express, for both sons relish in the fondest memories of having been brought up in embrace by her. She also will be fondly recollected by many nieces and nephews who adored her, and acted as god mother to. Also, many friends of Jane will remember her being a pillar of strength to them in times of need, ultimately family alike.
