Janis A. Abramson (née Hinton), 92, passed away on May 3, 2026. She was born on September 16, 1933, in Cincinnati, Iowa to the late Robert and Eunice Glascock. 

Janis was united in marriage to the late William Abramson on October 24, 1953. He preceded her in death on May 21, 2006. Together, they built a life centered on family, love, and shared memories. She is survived by her children: Deborah (Eugene) Plonski and Robert Abramson; her grandchildren: Jennifer (Eric) Fisher, Andy (Kristen) Plonski, Melissa (Margie) Plonski, Suzanne (Jeffery) Barnett, Joseph (Katie) Plonski, Audrey (Lee) Ellerbrook, and Grace Plonski; and her great-grandchildren: Caitlynn Fisher, Brayden, Norah, Landen and Graysen Plonski, Sawyer, Piper, and Finnick Barnett, and Hazel Ellerbrook. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.Janis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her siblings: Robert Lee, Dwayne, and Carolyn.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Janis dedicated much of her life to caring for her family, especially her son. She found great joy in traveling with her loved ones and was known for the many stories she shared from her experiences. A faithful member of Clay United Methodist Church, she regularly attended Sunday services and found strength in her faith.Janis had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid collector of Precious Moments figurines, loved tending to her garden—especially her cherished tulips—and enjoyed knitting and crocheting heartfelt creations for friends and family. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Janis’ spirit will live on through her stories and the many lives she touched.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 20, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of life all at the McGann Hay University Chapel, 2323 Edison Rd, South Bend. A graveside service and inurnment will be held at a later date. Details will be announced once they are finalized by the family.
