Jan was a loving and devoted wife and mother, and a woman of God. Her character gifts were love, showing mercy to others, generosity of her time. She graduated from Purdue in 1947 and later from the National College of Education, now known as St. Louis University, in 1948. She taught Kindergarten and 1st grade for 3 years before starting her family. A selfless person, she always put the needs and desires of others, especially for her family, above herself. She did her best to attend every sporting event her sons played in. She was a cheerleader for all her family. Her gift of volunteering time had a significant positive effect on others. She was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital for over 40 years and was recognized at the Northern Area Volunteer of the Year in 2003. She made significant contributions as a volunteer at the Budget Corner. She was also very active in her church, Evangel Heights UMC, where she chaired the bake sale for many years. She was an avid Purdue football and basketball fan who loved to analyze each game with her family. She was also a faithful poll worker, gardener, and caretaker of her bird feeders. As a lifelong learner, she learned how to Uber when she was 92 and use an iPhone at 93. For fun, she enjoyed scrapbooking and would surprise her family with new pages each Christmas. She will be dearly missed by many.
A memorial service will be celebrated at Evangel Heights on Wednesday, October 18th at 12:00 p.m., with visitation two hours prior.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Evangel Heights, or to Memorial Hospital.
