Joan Walker, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, at the North Woods Village memory care facility in Mishawaka, Indiana. She was born on May 19, 1926, in Decatur, Illinois, and lived a life full of love, adventure, and family pride.
Joan dedicated her career to shaping young minds as a school teacher and later thrived as a Realtor and Broker at Coldwell Banker. Her passion for education and real estate showcased her commitment to the community and her desire to help others achieve their dreams.
She cherished her family above all else, finding endless joy at the family cottage on Donnell Lake, where wonderful memories were created over the years. Joan's personality shined with a warmth that drew people to her. She was deeply family-oriented, always prioritizing time spent with her loved ones.
A proud graduate with a BS degree in Chemistry from Millikin University, Joan carried her academic achievements with grace and used her knowledge to inspire those around her. Throughout her life, she nurtured a love for travel, exploring the world with an open heart, and especially adored her time in Florida, where she found happiness collecting seashells at her home in Fort Myers.
Joan was also an avid Bridge player, a passion that reflected her strategic mind and affinity for social connections. Her competitive spirit and friendly demeanor made her a cherished companion at the card table and beyond.
She leaves behind her loving son James E. Walker Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona, and his wife Judy; son Mark A. Walker of Granger, Indiana, and his wife Margie; and daughter Diane Stokes of Tampa, Florida, and her husband Gary. Joan's family mourns the loss of her and will forever hold dear her legacy of love, joy, and resilience. She is preceded in death by her husband James E. Walker Sr. and her daughter Lynette Walker.
