Linda Sue “Beaver” Shafer

Linda Sue “Beaver” Shafer, 79, passed away on August 19, 2026, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana.

Linda was born on September 14, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana, to Francis Carl Shafer and Joan Margaret (Vander-Bosch) Shafer. She attended Vogue Beauty College and went on to build a remarkable 55-year career as a hairstylist at Gene Allen’s Hair Studio in South Bend. Linda began working at the salon immediately after graduating from beauty school and remained there for her entire career, retiring after 55 years of dedicated service.

Linda was known for her creativity, her ability to bring people together, and her generous spirit. She had many creative interests throughout the years and especially loved spending time around her pool. She enjoyed visiting the casino, belonged to a monthly euchre club, and took great pride in organizing John Adams High School Class of 1964 reunions and luncheons for many years. Friends and family often described Linda as “the glue that held people together.” She had a special talent for making holidays memorable and always made Christmas especially special for those she loved.

Linda is survived by her partner of 25 years, Rick “Doc” Andrews of Granger, Indiana; her daughter, Danielle Farr (Leslie Weaver) of Indianapolis; her son, Eric Farr (Cheryl Phillips-Wise) of Mishawaka; her step-daughters, Hiddi (Josh) Benhower and Heather Andrews; her grandson, Timothy E. Farr of Indianapolis; her step-grandchildren, Jayda Henderson and Harper Benhower; her great-grandson, Timothy Farr; her sister, Sandra Plummer of Noblesville; her niece, Jessica (David) Bradley and her two great-nephews; and her nephew, Ryan (Heather) Plummer and her great-nephew and great-niece.

Linda will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, loyalty, and the countless ways she brought family and friends together. Her presence touched many lives, and the connections she nurtured over the years will continue to live on through those who loved her.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, at McGann Hay, University Chapel, at 11:00 AM, with the memorial service immediately following at 11:30 AM.
