It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lori Michelle Brown (Rayner) 55, who took her final flight on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Lori passed away peacefully in South Bend, Indiana, leaving behind a legacy of curiosity, wisdom and a deep abiding love for nature’s most magnificent night watchers. Lori’s fascination with owls became a defining passion.
Lori was born on November 8, 1970, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Orba Richard Jenkins and Clarice (Tompach) Jenkins.
On June 27, 2026, Lori married Kenneth Rayner, who survives her. Although she earned her associate degree, Lori found her greatest fulfillment as a homemaker, devoting her time and love to her family and those around her.
Lori leaves behind her loving husband, Kenneth Rayner; her loving daughter, Megan Brown whom she shared with Clifford Brown both of Rolling Prairie; her stepdaughter, Michelle Bryner of South Bend; her stepson, Jason Rayner of Portage; her sister, Marcia Gillem of Syracuse; and her brother, Kevin Jenkins of Daleville, Indiana. She also leaves behind many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews who will cherish her memory.
To know Lori was to know genuine kindness. She had an incredibly generous heart and was always willing to help anyone in need. Her warm smile, caring nature, and selfless spirit touched countless lives, and she was loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Lori found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved owls, shopping, and going out to eat with family and friends. She had a love for country music, trips to the casino whether she won or lost and visiting Tennessee. Lori would spend countless hours driving to Madison, Indiana, a place that held her heart. She loved the scenic drive, always looking forward to visiting her family. She had a sweet tooth for Kit Kats, Dairy Queen, chocolate, and really enjoyed her milkshakes. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with the people she loved most. Lori also had a special place in her heart for her daughter, Megan’s cat, Yang, whom she loved dearly.
Above all else, Lori’s family was the center of her world. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, generosity, and unconditional love that will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
A celebration of Lori’s life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 from 2-3:30 PM EST at McGann Hay University Chapel, 2313 Edison Road, South Bend, with a memorial service beginning at 3:30 p.m.
