Lorna “Lori” Acantilado Flores, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Mishawaka, Indiana, on April 16, 2026. 

She was born on May 17, 1947, in Paete, Laguna, Philippines, to Eugenio Buhay Acantilado and Asuncion Corpus (Navarro) Acantilado. Her father passed away when she was only 17 years-old, so as the eldest of 8 siblings, she became the breadwinner of the family. Lorna attended the University of the Philippines and obtained her bachelor’s degree in Accounting. She also completed a Master’s degree in Business Administration. She worked for several prominent companies in the Philippines, such as SGV and Johnson & Johnson before migrating to the United States on April 2, 1985. 

On April 1, 1984, Lorna gave birth to her one and only child, Rose Emillie Navarro Acantilado. On May 18, 1989, Lorna married Pete Villaluz Flores in Rockford, Illinois. Together they built a life as a family in Rockford, actively involved in a small Filipino community. 

Lorna had a distinguished career for over 20 years at Amcore Bank, where she served as Assistant Vice President in International Banking until her retirement in 2010. During her time there, she was honored with the Ring of Excellence, which was the highest and most prestigious award at her company. She was also an active member of her community, serving as Treasurer of the Greater Rockford Filipino-American Catholic Community. Lorna loved to dance and perform traditional Filipino dances. She also loved to attend parties and had many social circles. 

She is survived by her loving husband, Pete Flores; her daughter, Rose (Jonathan) Abiera; and her cherished grandchildren, JJ Abiera, Joshua Abiera, Mila Abiera, and Jordan Abiera. Lorna’s grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She loved them deeply and helped care for them for 10 years after her retirement from Amcore Bank. 

Lorna will be remembered for her strength, leadership, and devotion to her family and community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.In accordance with her wishes, her family will bring her ashes to Laguna, Philippines where she will be laid to rest close to her mother and other relatives.
