Mary Richards

Mary Rose Richards (Dunn), 102, of South Bend, Indiana passed away peacefully on Sunday Oct 5, 2025 with her family by her side. Mary was born on June 20, 1923 in Jeffersonville, Indiana and was the daughter of the late Walter Dunn and Margaret Dunn (Bane).

Mary met Thurston Lawrence Horlander and they later married and had 4 wonderful children, Clara, William, Ronald and Charles. In 1975, Thurston passed away. William and Ronald have passed away since with Clara and Charles being the only surviving children. Years later, Mary met Roy Richards and they later married and in June of 1995, Roy passed away. Mary had a heart of gold and loved serving people. Mary was a homemaker and lived a full life marked by dedication to her family. Her life was a life filled with love, laughter and the joy of family.

Outside of being a homemaker, some of Mary’s more exciting adventures included traveling. Mary loved traveling to Florida and Gatlinburg, so at one point their family decided to make Florida and Gatlinburg their home for a while. Mary also enjoyed sewing and reading in her spare time. In 1969, Mary was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness in Laporte, IN. Mary was a faithful servant and continued proclaiming Jehovah’s word. She found great joy in in sharing the good news of God’s Kingdom with everyone she met.

Mary was preceded in death by her first husband Thurston Horlander, her second husband, Roy Richards, her son’s William and Ronald Horlander.

Mary is survived by her children, Charles (Sue Nell) Horlander, her daughter Clara Taylor, granddaughters Lana Taylor, Mindy Stouffer-Patrick and Heidi Horlander.
