Melanie Dee Nelson, 63, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and devoted follower of Christ, passed away peacefully at the Cleveland Clinic after a courageous battle. Melanie’s faith in Jesus and her unwavering love for her family defined her life, leaving an enduring legacy.
Melanie met her loving husband, Leonard at Valparaiso University, and they were married for 43 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith, and joy. Melanie is survived by her husband, Len; her children, Jennifer (Mitch) McClain, Cassandra (Tony) Navarro, and Matthew (Loren) Nelson; and her grandchildren, Emma, Caroline, Leonard Turnblom, Myles McClain, Logan, Eliana, and Griffin Navarro, and Annie and Audrie Nelson. She is also survived by her stepmother, Marilyn Dee, a brother Jeff Dee and many loving extended family members and friends. Melanie was preceded in death by her parents, Lynn and Matt Dee, and her granddaughter, Katie Nelson.
A dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Melanie’s deep faith was the cornerstone of her life. She led the Lifelight Women’s Bible Study for 21 years, impacting countless lives with her wisdom, kindness, and spiritual insight. Melanie also volunteered extensively with Vacation Bible School and the church’s youth ministry, sharing her love for Christ with the younger generations. Melanie's devotion to her loved ones knew no bounds, and her home was always a place of warmth, comfort, and unconditional love.
As we grieve her passing, we take comfort in knowing that Melanie is now at peace with her Lord, rejoicing in His eternal presence. We will forever cherish her memory and the countless ways she touched our lives with her love, and faith.
Viewing will be at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel (13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd.,) on Sunday April 13th from 4-8pm. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkhart, on Monday April 14 at 10am, Rev. Spencer Mielke, Sr. Pastor, Officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkhart, to continue the work of spreading Christ’s love that Melanie so valued.
