Molly Elizabeth Schrager

June 30, 1997 — September 12, 2022

Molly E. Schrager died unexpectedly September 12, 2022, at the young age of 25, in West
Lafayette, Indiana. She was born in Chang De, Hunan, China on June 30, 1997.
Molly was adopted by Debbie Schrager, on August 18, 1998. She lived in Colorado Springs, CO
her first year in the United States and then, with the addition of her sister, Tessa, also adopted
from China, the family moved to South Bend to be close to family.
Molly led a full life in South Bend and loved having so many relatives nearby. She went to Early
Childhood Center at Notre Dame for preschool and could not figure out why she could not go 7
days a week. We would then have to drive over on weekends to show her that no one was
there. She then went through the Penn school system and graduated with honors.
Molly was an exceptionally bright girl, and she enjoyed talking (a lot) and asking (a lot) of
questions. Her passion was reading and learning. For many summers she would read a book a
day. Throughout her childhood she loved to play outside, collecting bugs, rocks and just about
anything else she could talk her sister Tessa into doing. The girls took gymnastic classes, and
diving classes together. Molly excelled in both! Molly danced with a troupe of other local Asian
dancers for the Chinese New Year for over 6 years. For two years, she led the flute section in
the Penn Marching Kingsman, and she was an active member of the National Honor Society, as
well as a Freshman Mentor, Key Club Member and graduated with an Academic Honors
Diploma. At Temple Beth El, South Bend IN, she became a bat mitzvah and celebrated her
confirmation.
Molly graduated from Purdue University Honors College with a degree in Civil Engineering. At
Purdue, she was a resident assistant, a dance choreographer for her Chinese dance troupe, a
pledge mom for her sorority, a teaching assistant and participated in many other activities.
When she was not studying, Molly worked as a hostess and then waitress for six years at Maru
in West Lafayette.
Molly was an exceptional, kind, and loving person who was adored by many. She left us too
soon and will deeply missed.
Molly was preceded in death by her grandparents, Howard W. and Eleanor "Mitzie" (Kahn)
Schrager. Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Debbie Schrager of South Bend; sister,
Tessa; aunts and uncles; Jim and Terri Schrager, Nancy Schrager, Fred Kahn and Marsha Brook,
and Ramona Kahn; and cousins, Max and Michael Schrager.
To honor her, donations can be made to either the SUSTAIN FUND at Temple Beth El, 305 West
Madison Street, South Bend IN 46601 or to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, 199
Water Street, 11 th Floor, New York, NY, 10038.The funeral service will be held through Zoom on Sunday at 5:00 p.m., with Rabbi Karen
Companez officiating.
