Sue Ellen Peters, Ph.D., 73, passed away peacefully in her home July 2, 2024, with family by her side.
Born February 2, 1951, in Nappanee, IN, she was the daughter of the late Richard “Bones” and Lora Belle (Herr) Pippen. Salutatorian of her high school class, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Ball State University. She went on to teach public school, then earned three master’s degrees and completed the Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology.
On June 21, 1975, she married the love of her life, Terry W. Peters. He survives her along with two children, Mathias “Matt” Peters and C.E. White; two sisters, Lou Ann Pippen and Gayle (Mel) Kemp; and two grandsons, Archer R.R. White and Liam A. W. White. She will also be missed by her two Small Animal Rescue pups, Poppy and Withew, who were always by her side.
Sue Ellen was a loving wife, mother and friend. She was very intelligent, witty, and ever-curious. She has taught Psychology at IU-South Bend and worked many years for Madison Center and Oaklawn Center as a Psychotherapist. She loved to read, travel and explore the Tarot and all systems of spiritual teaching. She was a member of the Purple With a Red Hat Old Ladies’ Society; and the Adults of Unity. She was a long-time member of Unity of Michiana Spiritual Center and served many years on that church’s Board of Trustees. She had many wonderful friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for the wonderful and loving care they provided.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Unity of Michiana Spiritual Center on Friday, July 19, at 2:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) and broadcast via Livestream from Unity’s Facebook page.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heartland Hospice, or to the American Cancer Society.
