Valentina M. Rozenblit, 96, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away at her home on Tuesday September 22, 2026. She was born on January 15, 1930 to Moysey and Dora (Horowitz) Zilberman in Kishinev, the capital city of Moldova. She married Iosif Rozenblit in Kishinev in 1951.
Valentina studied to be a nurse in Kishinev. During WWII, she went to Uzbekistan (Soviet Union at the time), where she finished her nursing education and worked for 5 years. She was the only medical person in some areas for 1,000 miles. She cared for many malaria patients during times of famine due to enemy occupation. She returned to Moldova, where she worked in the Moldova Hospital for 40 years. When she retired at age 66, she came to the United States.
Valentina worked hard to learn English, but found it easier to understand her many friends by their expressions and tone of voice. She was friendly to everyone and enjoyed socializing.
She loved reading and has an extensive collection of books. Once she was bedridden, her books were her window to the world. She was also an exceptional cook and loved to cook for family and friends.
Valentina is survived by her daughter, Rita (Alex) Mordkovich, of Mishawaka; her son, Mark (Regina) Rozenblit, of South Bend; and 6 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, who was killed in WWII.
A graveside service in her honor will be at 9 am Friday, September 25, 2026 at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, 1220 S. Logan Street, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Rabbi Yosef Chaim Danziger will officiate.
