William John Unger

GRANGER-William J. "Bill" Unger, 93, passed away peacefully May 17, 2022. Born December 3, 1928 in Kalamazoo, MI, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Klabusich) Unger. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Theresa Kovach; and brother, Robert "Bob" Unger. On June 23, 1951, Bill married Patricia Sheibley, who he lovingly cherished for 71 years. She preceded him in death April 2, 2022. Left to cherish his memory are three sisters: Helen Arend of Jackson, MI, Joan Seach of Bremen, IN and Marian Herman of Mishawaka; 25 nieces and nephews, who adored him; sister-in-law, Lynda Unger of Elkhart; and his special friends, John and Shirley Faigh of Elkhart. Bill, first and foremost, was a loving and devoted husband to Pat. She was the love of his life. He was also devoted to helping others and donated over 185 pints of blood. He loved Notre Dame football, his many dogs, and Coors Banquet Beer. Bill proudly served in the US Army for 2 years during the Korean War (1950 - 1952.) He was an instructor at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. He was also a long-time member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 19 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, at St. Pius X Catholic Church. The funeral will be live-streamed and can be accessed at St.Pius.net or Facebook.com/StPiusGranger In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bill's name to the Center for Hospice Care or St. Pius X Catholic Church.
