Zakoda James Solum, a radiant light in the lives he touched, graced this world on March 24, 2023, in Elkhart. His brief but vivid journey came to an unexpected end on December 20, 2024, at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. Although his time with us was far too short, Zakoda’s vibrant spirit and exquisite joy left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
From the very beginning, Zakoda’s energy lit up every room he entered, a natural source of delight that could not be ignored. He had an infectious love for laughter and play, adored the animated antics of Bluey and Mickey Mouse, and could often be found joyously doing the hot dog dance, a burst of delight in every wiggle and twirl. His boundless enthusiasm made climbing every available surface a joyous adventure, while spinning around in circles until he was dizzy was a favorite pastime that perfectly encapsulated his youthful exuberance.
There was something utterly enchanting about the way Zakoda would blow kisses and mimic the world around him—a playful copycat of sorts, reflecting all the silliness and charm of childhood. Bath time was another canvas of joy, where splashes and giggles intermingled, and brushing his teeth was transformed into a fun-filled ritual. And who could forget the irresistible allure of McDonald's nuggets? They were more than just a meal; they were a celebration of simple pleasures he cherished.
Left to carry the torch of his memory are his loving mother, Kylie Solum, and his stepfather, Miguel Garcia; along with his devoted grandparents, Nicole (Matthew) Solum; great-grandparents, Debbie Dibble, Janice (Robert-deceased) Smith, Allan (Pat) Solum and Linda...; aunts, Ashland and Madison Solum; uncle, Tyler West; and godmother, Joselynn Newsome. Each of them will forever hold close the laughter, the mischievous spirit, and the uncontainable joy that Zakoda brought into their lives.
Though Zakoda’s footprints on this earth may be small, the love and warmth he radiated will continue to echo in the hearts of those he leaves behind. His spirit remains intertwined with the moments of joy, laughter, and love, a testament to a beautiful life whose light will never dim, even in physical absence. As we remember Zakoda, we hold onto the memories that swirl in our hearts like the joyful dances he so loved, forever grateful for the joy he sprinkled into our lives.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
