Bruce Gordon McDougal

Bruce G. McDougal of Granger, IN and Naples, FL, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, on April 7, 2023. He was 81 years old.

Bruce was born December 7, 1941 in Bucyrus, OH, to the late Richard and Margaret (Sweney) McDougal.

Bruce leaves behind his wife, Toni, of 53 years; two sons, Grant (Renee) McDougal of Carmel, IN and Ryan (Julia) McDougal of Santa Monica, CA. and seven grandchildren.

Bruce was raised in Galion, OH, graduating high school in 1959. He continued his education at Ohio State University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology. After a year of graduate work in Biochemistry, Bruce joined the U.S. Army. He successfully completed Officers Candidate School in Ft. Benning, GA. and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer. During his service, he spent a year in Viet Nam and was awarded the Silver and Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart, among other service awards.

Upon his return from the service, Bruce worked for Continental Oil before moving to Michiana to work for Miles Laboratories, where he met and married his wife, Toni Barbara Morse. He worked both at the Elkhart and West Haven, CT locations. Continuing his education, Bruce received a master’s in business administration from New Haven University. In 1980, Bruce left Miles and purchased Schuell Fence Co. He operated the company for the next 35 years, retiring in 2015.

His hobbies included sports and reading, focusing on history and current events.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, April 13, at 11 a.m. at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd., with Rabbi Karen Companez officiating. The funeral will also be live-streamed. Upon the death of Toni, they will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to Tunnels to Towers, Wounded Warriors, or St. Jude’s Hospital.
