David Clark Wallace, Jr.

David C. Wallace, Jr., age 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with Dementia. Born May 10, 1943, in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late David C. Sr. and Ruby (Bowman) Wallace. David was preceded in death by his brother Robert B. Wallace, who died in 2004.

On August 24, 1974, David married the love of his life, Jean Elizabeth (Whyte). She survives him. To their union, they were blessed with two sons, David (Amanda) Wallace of Granger, IN and Rob (Krystina) Wallace of Mishawaka, IN. Also left to cherish his memory are six grandchildren and a sister, Sandra Wallace of Waterford, MI.

Dave was a loving and devoted husband, married to his sweetheart “Jeanie” for nearly 50 years. The two of them met working together at Skillman-Zielesch CPA Firm. The day they met, Dave walked out of his office and bumped into Jeanie. They had an immediate connection, locking eyes, and both grinning from ear to ear. He wore a bright green shirt with an orange tie. Jeanie recalls that his attire always matched his exuberant personality. Before having kids, the two of them enjoyed camping and riding bikes together.

A loving father, he enjoyed watching his two sons participate in Middlebury Little League, Youth Soccer, and the Northridge Raider Marching Band. In his later years, he loved taking the grandkids to the Elkhart County 4H Fair and cherished moments with them on the Merry-Go-Round, Bumper Boats, and Pony Rides.

A man of faith, he was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Goshen, IN. He enjoyed serving as an ordained Elder & Deacon, singing in the church choir, and helping serve dinner on Christmas Day to hundreds of people to celebrate the birth of the Savior, and to share food, fun, and fellowship with the community.

He worked as a financial controller at Cardinal Buses of Middlebury, IN in his earlier years, and enjoyed working as an accountant for ADEC, Inc. of Bristol, IN in his later years. He knew no stranger and loved running into people from the community at the bank or the post office. He was particularly proud to be the first from his family to graduate from college, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.

He proudly served in the US Army for three years and was honorably discharged in 1969. Among other honors, on July 17, 1969, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for distinguished heroism, outstanding achievement, and meritorious service.

Graveside Services, with Military Honors, will be held on Friday, June 2 at 1 p.m. at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi, MI where he will join his brother, mother, father, and a dozen other relatives who have previously been interned. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, June 17 at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Goshen, IN where friends and family are encouraged to gather to pay their respects, share memories, and sing hymns together.
